Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect on the discovery call?
The discovery call will take about 15-20 minutes. We will discuss your current complaints, what goals you want to achieve, and go over our physical therapy process. If you decide to move forward, we will book your first assessment during this call.
What should I expect on the first assessment?
Your first assessment will last 60 minutes. It will include a comprehensive evaluation of your health history, a physical examination, a diagnosis, treatment, exercise prescription and plan of care. Your physical examination will include a functional movement assessment, strength, power, mobility, coordination, balance, and more. You will leave your session understanding exactly what’s going on and what you need to do to address your pain and start working towards your goals.
What should I wear to my session?
Please wear athletic clothes that allow for movement and easy access to your area(s) of concern. If you are coming in for a running assessment, wear your running shoes.
Where are you located?
I practice out of Studio FitLife at 3241 Grand Ave. Oakland, CA 94610. When you arrive, please come in and have a seat in our waiting area. I will come out and greet you.
Is there parking?
There is metered street parking in front of the gym, a metered parking lot up the block, and free residential parking 1-2 blocks over. Please allow enough time for parking.
Do you take my insurance?
To provide the best care possible to our patients, we are an out-of-network clinic and do not take insurance. The traditional insurance-based model includes short face time with the clinician, getting passed off to an aide or tech who has minimal training in rehab, limited visit availability, and cookie-cutter exercises that don’t challenge you or relate to your goals. Here at Dr. Nicole Garlit Physical Therapy and Wellness, you will have the full 60 minutes with your therapist, receive one-on-one attention, and be guided through treatment and an exercise program that is tailored to you. This leads to a high quality experience, faster and a more complete recovery, and saves you money in the long run. Superbills are available upon request. You may submit this superbill to your insurance company to potentially get a portion of your visit reimbursed.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept credit card, debit card, and FSA/HSA.
Do I need a referral?
In California, direct access allows you to see a physical therapist without a referral. You can see a physical therapist for 12 visits or 45 days (whichever comes first) prior to needing a referral from your physician.
